Variations2
Unique to Indiana University, the Variations2 project is an enhanced music system designed to modernize educational resources for music students in an online learning context. Variations2 establishes a digital music library that makes available music resources over the web for both students and instructors. The system is only available to music students, faculty, and other members of the IU community and is accessible from any connected system, including remote off-campus access using a student's IU login over a broadband connection. Some of the online capabilities of Variations2 are:
- Enhanced searching of the existing IUCAT catalog for music and multimedia materials
- Playback of selected audio materials using streaming technology
- Display of musical scores
- Bookmarking of positions in scores for later reference
- Add your own private online annotations to your copy of a score
- Timeliner tool for creating structural diagrams of compositions
- Combined score and audio playback, with automatic page turning
- Listening drills for style and repertoire recognition
Variations2 builds on the previous Variations project that was in use at IU from 1996 until the summer of 2005.
